Throughout the summer, your local chapter of the American Red Cross has been busy with the 2009 Days of Disaster Campaign. This is an opportunity for you to have a direct impact on people in your community by helping to cover the cost of immediate basic needs for families and individuals when a disaster strikes. For $248.62 you can “buy a day” of disaster relief for an individual. From June of 2008 to June of 2009, local Red Cross staff and volunteers responded to more than 145 local events and helped over 625 individuals who had fallen victim to a disaster. That means every 2.5 days, there was some sort of disaster that impacted the life of someone in our community. All disaster services are provided at no charge.
Since our kick off, we have been busy hitting the streets and meeting people in our comunities. We started in Somerset County and have been making our way west and south. Please, don't wait for us to contact you! Buy a day, two or a week and show your support for local disaster relief in your home town. There is something very powerful that comes in knowing you are having a direct impact on your neighbors and helping them get back on their feet after a disaster!
We invite you to join us and join your neighbors who are already a part of this campaign.
Together we can turn a day of disaster into a day of hope.
